Family First Backyard Resort
This family is an active bunch! They love to play together, spend time as a close-knit family, and hang out with friends. But their backyard was underwhelming; the home originally had an underutilized, small asphalt slab patio and basic lawn. They wanted an adult entertaining area within view of a new sports court and kid-friendly area. They weren’t sure how exactly that was going to be accomplished, but knew they wanted to have separate spaces for adults and kids to spend time while still feeling like part of the same yard.
After an Alderwood design was nailed down, construction lasted 11 weeks in total. The entire project was completed on time and on budget for $150-175,000. The main challenge with this project was designing the patio and sport court spaces to be cool, functional, and inviting, while still preserving large open spaces for soccer and other lawn activities.
The adult space is a large paver patio close to the residence with a sunken custom fire pit area. The new sport court and outdoor play structure are within view of the adult space. Plants and light bring the entire yard to life.
The clients’ new backyard has become the envy of the neighborhood! Not only does it look amazing, but it functions very well for the entire family as well. They enjoy dinners on the patio and weekend cuddles by the fire pit. The neighborhood kids spend all their time here, playing basketball and hanging out. It’s now the perfect balance between an intimate space for a family of 4 that also has the capacity to host a party of up to 30 people without feeling too big.
