Refined Outdoor Living with Teen-Friendly Accents
The clients’ patio and walkway were choppy and boring, the deck outside the master bedroom was failing, there was no covered space outside, and no place to keep warm on chilly evenings outdoors. They knew they wanted a refined outdoor living space with teen-friendly accents that downplayed the large sport court for their home.
Working with Alderwood Landscaping and Construction and a private architect, their ideal backyard resort was designed. We were most notably consulted for grade changes, unique design challenges, and important material selection questions that needed an expert’s input. An important decision for this project was ensuring the second-floor views were preserved even with the installation of an overhead structure. Carefully calculating and selecting the perfect roof pitch solved this. In just 6 weeks, construction was completed by Alderwood on time and on budget for $200-250,000.
The new patio and outdoor living area have totally transformed the way the clients spend their evenings. The multi-functional overhead structure allows for a covered dining area as well as a couch seating area around a gas fire table. The high-quality outdoor kitchen, complete with premium finishes, grill, smoker, sink, and plenty of counter space, and built-in lighting allow for nearly year-round outdoor cooking. The beautiful Belgard pavers, boulders, plantings, and lighting draw attention to lessen the emphasis on the sports court at the middle of the property. A secluded hot tub area creates a nice destination for an evening soak, and the secondary wood-burning fire pit offers teen children and parents separate spaces.
